When I learned a foreign language, I wondered how the children of the country would study. So I write this article.
I am not an expert, But I speak from the perspective of mother who taught my child language.
In korea, The moment of birth is one year old. Although each baby has different timing, after a year birth, the baby begins to speak. This time is two years old.
As children grow up, They can speak syllables, word, and sentences in order. Children are interested in writing and reading when they are 5~6 years old in korea. This is also different for each children. Children enter elementary school at the 8 years old. So, Korean mothers are taught to read and write "Hangul" before 7 years old.
Hangul is divided into consonants and vowels. This consonants and vowels gathered together and become letter. Again, letter and letter gathered together and become word. When I learned Hangul, I learned in this order.
In summary:
Consonant + vowel = letter. → letter + letter = words.
But nowadays, Children also learn in the opposite direction. Learns letters by dividing words. Learns consonants and vowels by dividing letters.
I did't think this method was good. so, I taught my daughter the way I learned. I think this way is a quick way to understand Hangul.
Hangul has 21 vowels and 19 consonants. First, You have to study ten basic vowels. Then you have to study the basic 14 consonants.
Vowels.
ㅏ(a), ㅑ(ya), ㅓ(eo), ㅕ(yeo), ㅗ(o), ㅛ(yo), ㅜ(u), ㅠ(yu), ㅡ(eu), ㅣ(i),
Consonants.
ㄱ(giyeog), ㄴ(nieun), ㄷ(digeud), ㄹ(lieul), ㅁ(mieum), ㅂ(bieub), ㅅ(sios), ㅇ(ieung), ㅈ(jieuj),
ㅊ(chieuch), ㅋ(kieok),ㅌ(tigeut), ㅍ(pieup), ㅎ(hieuh)
Create a letter by combining the above vowels and consonants.
In order to study Korean, you need to know Hangul. The above table is the basis for the study of Hangeul. It is easy to understand that consonants and vowels are combined and become letters. In this article, I talked about the timing of Korean children learning Hangul. I also talked about the basics of Hangul. I hope that anyone who is interested in studying Korean may be able to help you.
